Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you’ll make as a parent. At Staten Island Academy, we believe in encouraging curiosity, independence, and a love for learning from the very beginning. Our Lower School, which includes our Early Childhood Programs (Pre-K and Kindergarten) and Grades 1-4, offers an exceptional educational experience designed to nurture each student’s unique potential.

If you’re exploring potential schools for your child, now is the time to apply. Spots are limited for the 2024-2025 academic year, so we invite you to visit our campus for our All School Admissions Open House(opens in new tab), the last of the school year, on Saturday, April 26, from 9 AM to 12 PM.

What Makes the Lower School at Staten Island Academy Unique?

At Staten Island Academy, we educate the whole child, focusing on intellectual, social, and emotional growth simultaneously for a well-rounded approach to learning. Our small class sizes, individualized attention, and dynamic curriculum allow students to feel supported, challenged, and excited about learning.

Early Childhood: A Time for Play and Discovery

Our Early Childhood Program provides a nurtured and enriching environment for our youngest students (Pre-K and Kindergarten) to develop confidence, curiosity, and independence through hands-on learning.

For the 2024-2025 school year, we’re introducing an exciting new mixed-age class for 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds, inspired by Reggio Emilia and Montessori principles. This innovative approach helps children build problem-solving and leadership skills, with older students acting as mentors and younger students learning through observation.(opens in new tab)

In our Early Childhood classrooms, children learn through exploration, discovery, and collaboration, naturally unfolding as students interact with their environment, ask questions, and engage in meaningful play. The curriculum is designed to balance structured learning with creativity, giving young students the space to develop at their own pace while building the social and academic skills they need for future success.

Lower School: Building Independence and Leadership

From Grades 1 to 4, students dive deeper into their academic journey, strengthening critical thinking, organization, and time management skills. They engage in theme-based, interdisciplinary learning across core subjects like Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies, all while developing independence and a sense of responsibility for their own education.

As they grow, students take on leadership roles, learn to navigate social interactions and become active members of their community. By Grade 4, students are well-prepared to transition to Middle School(opens in new tab), equipped with the skills, curiosity, and confidence they need to succeed.
